Health and Social Care
Subject Overview:
At Tibshelf Community School, our Health and Social Care course introduces Year 9 students to the vital roles within the healthcare and social care sectors. This option provides an overview of how professionals support the well-being of individuals, families, and communities, as well as the skills required to care for others in a compassionate and professional manner. Through engaging lessons and discussions, students explore topics such as human development, roles in the care profession, first aid and health promotion, laying a foundation for further study in this rewarding field.
The BTEC Health and Social Care course that we start in Y10 offers a more in-depth exploration of these themes, blending academic learning with practical application. Students will cover areas such as effective communication in care settings, understanding human lifespan development, and the importance of person-centred care. Our Health and Social Care curriculum helps students develop essential skills such as empathy, teamwork, and problem-solving, qualities that are highly valued in the healthcare and social services sectors.
