Child Development

Subject Overview:

At Tibshelf Community School, our Child Development course offers Year 9 students an engaging introduction to understanding the physical, emotional, and cognitive growth of children from birth to adolescence. This option provides students with essential knowledge about how children develop, as well as the factors that influence their well-being and learning. Through interactive lessons and hands-on projects, students explore key topics such as child health, early education, and family dynamics, preparing them for further study in the field.

The BTEC Child Development course that we start in Y10 then deepens their expertise and builds on this foundation with a vocational approach, giving students practical skills and theoretical knowledge required for careers in childcare, education, and related sectors. The course covers vital areas such as early childhood education, the importance of play to develop learning and how to plan appropriate activities for children. This qualification not only enhances understanding of child development but also prepares students for further education, apprenticeships, or careers in childcare and early years education.
