BTEC Construction and the Built Environment
Construction and the Built Environment enables students to find out more about the building and construction industry. The two year course provides opportunities for pupils to understand the different stages of construction and the careers available. They will work to solve problems and work on real life construction issues. It is a good qualification to take if you wish to follow a more vocational route in Key Stage 4.

Unit 1 – External Exam – 25%
Unit 2 – Maths and Science – Coursework 25%
Unit 3 – Construction and Design – Coursework 25%
Unit 4 – Carpentry and Joinery Techniques – Coursework 25%
Unit 1 – External Exam – Based on structural performances required for low rise construction. Exploring how sub-structures and superstructures are constructed.
Unit 2 – Maths and Science – This unit aims to develop your understanding of the science and mathematics used in construction projects. It will be based around solving a variety of construction problems.
Unit 3 – Construction and Design – This unit enables you to develop a range of ideas based on a client’s brief.
Unit 4 – Exploring Carpentry and Joinery Techniques – Based on tools, materials and Personal protective equipment.
