The North East Midlands Collaborative Outreach Network (NEMCON) launched on 6 October 2015 to an audience of school, college and higher education (HE) practitioners - providing a new way to access local co-ordinated and collaborative Higher Education outreach. NEMCON brings together twelve universities and further education colleges to provide schools and colleges across Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and parts of Leicestershire simplified access to information, resources and outreach activities. The aim being to support practitioners and increase the aspirations of young people. Jonny Mitchell, the former head teacher who shot to fame on Channel 4’s BAFTA award-winning Educating Yorkshire, was the keynote speaker at the launch. His entertaining and informative talk was well received by all.
Bespoke Outreach for Tibshelf Community SchoolNEMCON has developed its first programme of bespoke outreach with Tibshelf Community School in Derbyshire. It includes a range of visits to NEMCON partners including a number of Year 7 and 8 campus visits, a care leaver taster event and a Year 9 NEMCON visit.
The Year 9 NEMCON visit will involve each tutor group visiting a different NEMCON partner on the same day and then developing and delivering a presentation back to the rest of the year sharing their experience. We’re excited to find out what the students will say and how each institution compares.HE partners involved include New College Nottingham, Nottingham Trent University, University of Nottingham, Chesterfield College, Derby College and Vision West
Nottinghamshire College. To find out how we can help your school please get in touch
